Eco-friendly super-tankers of LNG fuel; LNG = Liquefied Natural Gas; Miljoevennlige supertankere med LNG-drift

Abstract

DNV now presents its 'Triality concept' that makes it possible to use LNG as fuel also for super tankers. Up until now LNG has been reserved for vessels in coastal waters. VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) is used almost exclusively for the carriage of crude oil over the distance. Using LNG reduce emissions of CO{sub 2}: -34%; NO{sub x}: -82%; SO{sub x}: -94%; PM: -94%. Moreover eliminates use of ballast water and emissions of VOC vapors. Energy consumption is reduced by 25%. (AG)
