Swedish-Finnish power capacity increased by 40%. Fenno-Skan cable installed in May; Svensk-finsk kraftkapasitet oekes med 40%. Fenno-Skan kabelen installeres i mai

Abstract

The pieces are falling into place for the Fenno-Skan 2 - the new undersea power transmission link between southern Finland and Sweden. In May Nexans installs 200 km long submarine cable with high voltage direct current (HVDC) across the Gulf of Bothnia. Work on overhead lines and power stations on land are also on track. When the Fenno-Skan link is put into operation at the end of the year it will provide 40% increase in transmission capacity between the two countries. The biggest challenge has been that Sweden has a new voltage - 500 kV. (AG)
