The solar boat 'Midnight sun'; Solelbaaten 'Midnight sun'

Abstract

The solar boat 'Midnight sun' has during the project period been presented and demonstrated at many different events in Sweden. The focus has been on exhibitions for boats, energy and education. There was a great response from visitors but also from various media such as newspapers, radio and television which reported about the solar boat. Solar driven vehicles are a great way to create interest for solar technology. Due to the increased demand for technical improvements and financial efforts we refrained from participating at the solar boat race 'Frisian Solar Challenge' in 2010 in Holland. Instead a solar boat for tourist trade at Fraemby Udde in Falun has been designed and built. The boat will be rented to visitors during the summer period. The electrical components are designed for short trips with a travel time between 3-4 hours. The solar boat at Fraemby Udde shows that it is relatively simple to convert an existing boat to a solar driven boat. Fraemby Udde receives many visitors, so the solar boat will be shown and used by a large number of tourists from Sweden and abroad
