Abstract
The extraction behaviour of U(VI), Pu(IV) and some associated fission products from aqueous nitric acid solutions with {gamma}- irradiated bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfoxide in dodecane was examined as a function of absorbed dose in the range of 2 to 40 M rad. The distribution ratio of both U(VI) and Pu(IV) decreased gradually up to 18.5 M Rad whereas it increased rapidly above this dose possibly owing to synergic effect of radiolytic products formed at higher doses. Initially up to 20 M Rad of absorbed dose, the extraction of fission product contaminants was insignificant, while it enhanced considerably with increasing dose above this level.
