Effect of gamma irradiation on some important extractants of divalent palladium

Abstract

Four reagents, tri-isobutylphosphine sulphide (TIPS), alpha benzoin oxime (ABO), dioctylsulphide (DOS) and dioctylsulphoxide (DOSO), of relevance to the extraction and recovery of palladium from high radioactive waste solutions of PUREX origin, have been irradiated at different gamma doses. These irradiated reagents as such and also after washing with 0.2 M sodium carbonate solution have been utilised from the extraction of Pd(II). The results of the extraction behaviour of palladium with the irradiated reagents and its stripping from the loaded organic phase have been discussed. (author). 4 refs., 2 tabs.
