Abstract
The SO{sub 4}{sup .-} radical was found to react with hypoxanthine and inosine with diffusion controlled rates (k{sub Hyp} 6.6 x 10{sup 9} and k{sub InO} 6 x 10{sup 9} dm{sup 3} mol{sup -1} s{sup -1}). The absorption spectrum recorded in the reaction of SO{sub 4}{sup .-}with hypoxanthine is similar to that observed in {sup .}OH reaction unlike in the case of inosine. A reaction mechanism in the light of the observed results is proposed. (author). 3 refs., 1 fig.
