  "description" : "The thermodynamic limits of the direct conversion of solar radiation are analyzed with a view to increasing the efficiency of solar cells. It is shown that the conversion efficiency increases as the radiation wavelength decreases. A decrease in the conversion efficiency with an increase in the wavelength is particularly pronounced at low spectral densities. It is also shown that, all other conditions being equal, the efficiency of solar cells can be increased by using varigap structures with the red absorption limit at about 1100 nm. 14 references.",
