Forests are an important resource in Canada, in 1983 a reported one in ten jobs depended on the forest sector. The principle acid-forming materials are the oxides of sulphur and nitrogen which result mainly from coal-fired power plants, the smelting and petrochemical industries, and the transportation sector.
