<dc:description>Researchers considered application of a one-piece disc wheel made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) for a test vehicle ('Auto 2000'). The development of the modern automotive wheel is described up to the present state of the art including design of the molded part itself and the tools used to produce it. Being a safety-critical part, the whell requires extensive testing. The author of this article regards application of a one-piece automotive wheel made of the composite material HMC (High-strength Molding Compound) as feasible in the near future if attempts to reduce the amount of heat generated by friction near the wheel (caused by disc brakes) succeed.</dc:description>
