<dc:description>Magnetic properties of Co adatoms, chains and mixed Co/Pt chains on Pt surfaces are investigated. This is done by non-collinear density functional theory using the fully relativistic pseudopotentials. Spin-orbit interaction is taken into account. The local magnetization and magnetic anisotropy energies of the studied nanostructures are evaluated and compared with available experimental and theoretical results. Finally, the magnetic effect of electric fields on the magnetic properties is discussed.</dc:description>
