For a part the protons in this peak are produced by vibrational dissociation and for another part by a cascade of two collisions. For H{sub 2}{sup +} ions of 50 to 150 keV the cross section for vibrational dissociation is about 4.1 10{sup -19} cm{sup 2}/molecule in hydrogen and 1.1 10{sup -18} cm{sup 2}/molecule in argon. Les protons dans ce pic proviennent, pour une part de la dissociation vibrationnelle et pour l'autre part d'une suite de deux collisions.
