"description" : "A new ion exchange procedure has been developed for the separation of palladium from geological samples following a microwave digestion procedure. Preconcentration and isolation of Pd was done on a column packed with Duolite ES 346 chelating resin. It is a crosslinked copolymer with amidoxime chelating groups showing amphoteric properties. Mass distribution coefficients of several elements were measured (by batch equilibration technique with the use of radioactive tracers) in the system Duolite ES 346 - NH{sub 3} (c{sub NH3} = 0.05-10 mol/L), CN{sub H4Cl} = 0.01 mol/L. Batch experiments for two elements: palladium and gold were carried out in the systems Duolite Es 346 - 0.1 mol/L NH{sub 3} and 8 mol/L NH{sub 3}, c{sub NH4Cl} - 0.01 - 3.0 mol/L and Duolite ES 346 - mixed aqueous-non aqueous solutions: [(8 mol/L NH{sub 3} + 0.01 mol/L NH{sub 4}Cl) - CH{sub 3}OH] and [(8 mol/L NH{sub 3} + 0.01 mol/L NH{sub 4}Cl) - CH{sub 3}COCH{sub 3}]. This work together with earlier results from this laboratory enabled to devise a new separation scheme for selective and quantitative separation of Pd from most of accompanying elements. The elaborated procedure was subsequently used to the determination of Pd traces in geological materials by NAA. The detection limit for 1 h activation at a flux of 9.7x10{sup 13} ncm{sup 2}/s, 1.5 day cooling and 3 h measurement was 2 ng/g. The suitability and accuracy of the method was demonstrated by analyzing the available certified reference materials. (author)",
