CALUTRONS
Abstract
A system of calutrons is described employing a novel arrangement for maintatning a magnetic field. Several tanks. each containing an electromagnetic ion separating mechanism, are coaxially arranged in abutting relationship. The required magnetic field is provided by windings surrounding the series tanks and inclined to the axis of the series tanks so as to leave one edge wall of each tank clear and unobstructed for access into the tank. An important advantage of the disclosed construction is the calutron system does not require the use of expensive and bulky cores.
