SUBCOOLING DETECTOR
Abstract
A system for detecting and measuring directly the subcooling margin in a liquid bulk coolant is described. A thermocouple sensor is electrically heated, and a small amount of nearly stagnant bulk coolant is heated to the boiling point by this heated thermocouple. The sequential measurement of the original ambient temperature, zeroing out this ambient temperature, and then measuring the boiling temperature of the coolant permits direct determination of the subcooling margin of the ambient liquid.
