Title: Tamper-resistant fastener

Abstract

A tamper-resistant threaded fastener including a circular head having a slot formed in the head transverse to the longitudinal axis, the slot having an enlarged region intermediate an apex and a base of the slot. A cap member includes a head having a drive feature formed therein, the head extending to a first shank portion, extending to an enlarged second shank portion, extending to a foot. The cap member is insertable in the slot only from a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis. During rotational installation of the fastener and cap member in a threaded counterbored opening for securing a barrier for protecting an asset, the foot shears inside the slot at a predetermined rotational drive force, the cap member being rotatable in the opening and protectively covering the fastener head.

Eccentric conical fastening system

Fastening systems for parts that endure high vibration shear loads have traditionally been difficult or expensive to produce. This application describes a fastening system with multiple conical surfaces and eccentric offsets. The novel conical fastener system allows parts to be assembled with reduced tolerance controls at interface features while improving alignment precision. The eccentric conical fastening system is particularly well suited for assemblies with high shear loads in high vibration/shock environments, and/or for systems that have extremely precise pointing requirements.

Self-locking threaded fasteners

A threaded fastener with a shape memory alloy (SMA) coatings on its threads is disclosed. The fastener has special usefulness in high temperature applications where high reliability is important. The SMA coated fastener is threaded into or onto a mating threaded part at room temperature to produce a fastened object. The SMA coating is distorted during the assembly. At elevated temperatures the coating tries to recover its original shape and thereby exerts locking forces on the threads.
