Catalyst coating of a perovskite film and particles exsoluted from the perovskite film

A hybrid catalyst coating composed of a conformal thin film with exsoluted PrOx nano-particles. The conformal PNM thin film can be a perovskite composition of PrNi0.5Mn0.5O3 (PNM). The PrOx nano-particles dramatically enhance the oxygen reduction reaction kinetics via a high concentration of oxygen vacancies while the thin PNM film effectively suppresses strontium segregation from the cathode of an intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell.

Sr.sub.x Ba.sub.1-x Nb.sub.2 O.sub.6, where x is greater than 0.25 and less than 0.75, and KNbO.sub.3 ferroelectric thin films metalorganic chemical vapor deposited on amorphous or crystalline substrate surfaces to provide a crystal axis of the film exhibiting a high dielectric susceptibility, electro-optic coefficient, and/or nonlinear optic coefficient oriented preferentially in a direction relative to a crystalline or amorphous substrate surface. Such films can be used in electronic, electro-optic, and frequency doubling components.

Systems and methods of fabricating electrodes, including thin metallic films, include depositing a first metallic layer on a substrate and passivating the deposited layer. The processes of deposition and passivation may be done sequentially. In some embodiments, a plurality of substrates may be coated with a metallic layer and further processed at a later time, including passivation and disposal of additional layers as discussed herein.
