Abstract

Centrifuge samples may be exposed to microwave energy to heat the samples during centrifugation and to promote separation of the different components or constituents of the samples using a centrifuge device configured for generating microwave energy and directing the microwave energy at a sample located in the centrifuge.

More particularly, centrifugal separators comprising a first fluid supply fitting configured to deliver fluid into a longitudinal fluid passage of a rotor shaft and a second fluid supply fitting sized and configured to sealingly couple with the first fluid supply fitting are described. Also, centrifugal separator systems comprising a manifold having a drain fitting and a cleaning fluid supply fitting are described, wherein the manifold is coupled to a movable member of a support assembly. Additionally, methods of cleaning centrifugal separators are described.

The system includes a plasma forming zone configured to generate a plasma from radio-frequency radiation, an interface element configured to transmit the plasma from the plasma forming zone to a reaction zone, and the reaction zone configured to receive the plasma. The reaction zone is further configured to receive feedstock material comprising a carbon containing species, and convert the feedstock material to a product comprising the graphitic materials in presence of the plasma.

Carbon dioxide assisted metal-oxygen battery and related method

A non-aqueous Na-oxygen battery utilizes a gas mixture of CO₂ and O₂ as fuel. The battery exhibits a comparatively high specific energy of 6500-7000 Whkg.sup.-1 over a range of CO₂ feed compositions. The energy density achieved is higher, by 200% to 300%, than obtained with pure oxygen feed. Ex-situ FTIR and XRD analysis confirm Na2O2, Na₂C₂O₄ and Na₂CO₃ as discharge products. The Na--O₂/CO₂ battery provides a promising approach for CO₂ capture and conversion into electrical energy. The Na--O₂/CO₂ battery may be extended to other metals.
