Materials Data on Tb2Cl3 by Materials Project
Abstract
Tb2Cl3 crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Tb sites. In the first Tb site, Tb is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to five Cl atoms. There are a spread of Tb–Cl bond distances ranging from 2.77–3.37 Å. In the second Tb site, Tb is bonded in a pentagonal planar geometry to five Cl atoms. There are a spread of Tb–Cl bond distances ranging from 2.73–2.85 Å. There are three inequivalent Cl sites. In the first Cl site, Cl is bonded in a trigonal non-coplanar geometry to three equivalent Tb atoms. In the second Cl site, Cl is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to four Tb atoms. In the third Cl site, Cl is bonded in a distorted T-shaped geometry to three Tb atoms.
