Materials Data on MoCl4 by Materials Project
Abstract
MoCl4 crystallizes in the trigonal P-31m space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of one hexachloromolybdenum molecule and one MoCl3 sheet oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. In the MoCl3 sheet, Mo4+ is bonded to six equivalent Cl1- atoms to form edge-sharing MoCl6 octahedra. All Mo–Cl bond lengths are 2.45 Å. Cl1- is bonded in an L-shaped geometry to two equivalent Mo4+ atoms.
