Title: Materials Data on YbBr3 by Materials Project

Abstract

YbBr3 is Aluminum trichloride-like structured and crystallizes in the trigonal R-3 space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of three YbBr3 sheets oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. Yb3+ is bonded to six equivalent Br1- atoms to form edge-sharing YbBr6 octahedra. There are three shorter (2.88 Å) and three longer (2.89 Å) Yb–Br bond lengths. Br1- is bonded in a water-like geometry to two equivalent Yb3+ atoms.
