Abstract

LiNi9S10 is Caswellsilverite-like structured and crystallizes in the triclinic P1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Li1+ sites. In the first Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded to six S2- atoms to form LiS6 octahedra that share corners with twelve NiS6 octahedra, edges with six NiS6 octahedra, and faces with two NiS6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 48–52°. There are a spread of Li–S bond distances ranging from 2.46–2.52 Å. In the second Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded to six S2- atoms to form LiS6 octahedra that share corners with twelve NiS6 octahedra, edges with six NiS6 octahedra, and faces with two NiS6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 48–52°. There are a spread of Li–S bond distances ranging from 2.46–2.53 Å. There are eighteen inequivalent Ni+2.11+ sites. In the first Ni+2.11+ site, Ni+2.11+ is bonded to six S2- atoms to form NiS6 octahedra that share a cornercorner with one LiS6 octahedra, corners with eleven NiS6 octahedra, edges with two equivalent LiS6 octahedra, edges with four NiS6 octahedra, and faces with two NiS6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 46–53°. There are a spread of Ni–S bond distances ranging frommore » 2.34–2.47 Å.
