Title: Dual design resistor for high voltage conditioning and transmission lines

Abstract

A dual resistor for eliminating the requirement for two different value resistors. The dual resistor includes a conditioning resistor at a high resistance value and a run resistor at a low resistance value. The run resistor can travel inside the conditioning resistor. The run resistor is capable of being advanced by a drive assembly until an electrical path is completed through the run resistor thereby shorting out the conditioning resistor and allowing the lower resistance run resistor to take over as the current carrier.

  • A tool is described for manipulating a cotter key held in a socket. The cotter key comprises an elongated member having a rounded end and a split end, the split end consists of a pair of prongs that can be positioned either adjacent to or separated from one another. The socket comprises a body forming an element of an insulator assembly for a high voltage transmission line, the body being shaped so as to form an opening therethrough that includes interconnecting wide and narrow passages. The narrow passage is sized such that the rounded end of the cotter key cannotmore » pass through it, and the split end of the cotter key can pass through it only when the prongs are substantially adjacent to one another. The split end of the cotter key can be inserted through the narrow passage into the wide passage and the cotter key can then be secured in the socket by separating the prongs from one another.« less
  • A suspension insulator is described that is used on the tower of a high-voltage transmission line which has a capacitive voltage dividing pickup plate placed thereon to capacitively pick up a low-power indication of the potential carried by the line. In order to detect the potential on the plate, the potential difference between the plate and the tower is limited, rectified and applied to a neon lamp in a photo coupler. A photosensitive element in the photo coupler responds to the light from the lamp to operate a relay to control remote indicators.
  • A high voltage resistor comprising an array of a plurality of parallel electrically connected resistor elements each containing a resistive solution, attached at each end thereof to an end plate, and about the circumference of each of the end plates, a corona reduction ring.
