  • We combine the D0 measurement of the width difference between the light and heavy B{sub s}{sup 0} mass eigenstates and of the CP-violating mixing phase determined from the time-dependent angular distributions in the B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}{phi} decays along with the charge asymmetry in semileptonic decays also measured with the D0 detector. With the additional constraint from the world average of the flavor-specific B{sub s}{sup 0} lifetime, we obtain {delta}{gamma}{sub s}{identical_to}({gamma}{sub L}-{gamma}{sub H})=0.13{+-}0.09 ps{sup -1} and |{phi}{sub s}|=0.70{sub -0.47}{sup +0.39} or {delta}{gamma}{sub s}=-0.13{+-}0.09 ps{sup -1} and |{phi}{sub s}|=2.44{sub -0.39}{sup +0.47}. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.1 fb{supmore » -1} accumulated with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider.« less
  • Gronau, Rosner, and London have presented a method of determining the {ital CP}-violating phase {gamma} of the CKM matrix from the decays {ital B}{sup +}{r_arrow}{pi}{sup +}{ital K}{sup 0} and {ital B}{sup {plus_minus}}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup {plus_minus}}{pi}{sup 0}. We show that this method could provide a powerful constraint on {gamma} even if only a weak upper limit on the {ital CP} violation is obtained. We also point out a consequence of the assumptions they make.
  • In order to detect new physics using only CP-violating phase measurements in B decays, it is necessary to measure a phase factor which is small in the standard model, in addition to the usual large phases {beta} and {gamma}. We also point out that identifying violations of the unitarity of the CKM matrix is very difficult, and cannot be done with phase measurements alone. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
  • Possible CP violation in supersymmetric extensions of the standard model is discussed. The consequences of CP violating phases in the gaugino masses, trilinear soft supersymmetry-breaking terms, and the {mu} parameter are explored. Utilizing the constraints on these parameters from electron and neutron electric dipole moments, possible CP violating effects in B physics are shown. A set of measurements from the B system, which would overconstrain the above CP violating phases, is illustrated.
