The idea of ''antiparticles'', as is well known, originated with Dirac, who in establishing the relativistic equations for the electron noted that besides the solutions corresponding to ordinary electrons there were also ''unwanted solutions'' corresponding to particles of electronic mass but of charge +e instead of the electronic charge - e. The discovery of the positron by CD Anderson offered a brilliant experimental confirmation of Dirac's prediction and gave the first example of an ''antiparticle.''

This report forms part of the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) of the Compact LInear Collider (CLIC). The CLIC accelerator complex is described in a separate CDR volume. A third document, to appear later, will assess strategic scenarios for building and operating CLIC in successive center-of-mass energy stages. Canonical quantization of Galilean covariant field theories

The Galilean-invariant field theories are quantized by using the canonical method and the five-dimensional Lorentz-like covariant expressions of non-relativistic field equations. This method is motivated by the fact that the extended Galilei group in 3 + 1 dimensions is a subgroup of the inhomogeneous Lorentz group in 4 + 1 dimensions. First, we consider complex scalar fields, where the Schroedinger field follows from a reduction of the Klein-Gordon equation in the extended space.
