Title: Improved Measurement of CP Violation in Neutral BDecays to \ccbar s

Abstract

The authors present updated measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in fully-reconstructed neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates containing a charmonium meson. The measurements use a data sample of (383 {+-} 4) x 10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory. They determine sin2{beta} = 0.714 {+-} 0.032(stat) {+-} 0.018(syst) and |{lambda}| = 0.952 {+-} 0.022(stat) {+-} 0.017(syst).

  • We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, {eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays based on a sample of 535x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We obtain sin2{phi}{sub 1}{sup eff}=+0.64{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.04(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, +0.50{+-}0.21(stat){+-}0.06(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, and +0.30{+-}0.32(stat){+-}0.08(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays. We have observed CP violation in the B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0} decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters measured from J/{psi} K{sub S}{sup 0}, J/{psi}K{sub L}{sup 0}, {psi}(2S)K{sub S}{sup 0}, {eta}{sub c}K{sub S}{sup 0}, {chi}{sub c1}K{sub S}{sup 0} and J/{psi} K*(892){sup 0} decays are: C{sub f} = 0.024 {+-} 0.020(stat) {+-} 0.016(syst)more » and -{eta}{sub f}S{sub f} = 0.687 {+-} 0.028(stat) {+-} 0.012(syst).« less
  • Interference between [ital K][sub [ital S]] and [ital K][sub [ital L]] decays into the final state [pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][gamma] has been observed in experiment 731 at Fermilab. By fitting the distribution of decays downstream of a regenerator, a new CP-violation parameter [eta][sub +[minus][gamma]], analogous to [eta][sub +[minus]], has been measured, with its magnitude equal to (2.15[plus minus]0.26[plus minus]0.20)[times]10[sup [minus]3], and [phi][sub +[minus][gamma]], the associated phase angle, equal to (72[plus minus]23[plus minus]17)[degree]. Assuming that any difference between this fit value for [eta][sub +[minus][gamma]] and the previously measured value for [eta][sub +[minus]] can be attributed to direct CP violation in this decay,more » a limit of [vert bar][ital e][sub +[minus][gamma]][sup [prime]][vert bar]/[epsilon][lt]0.3 at the 90% confidence level has been made.« less
  • We present a precise measurement of the standard model CP-violation parameter sin2{phi}{sub 1}, the direct CP violation parameter |{lambda}|, the lifetimes of charged and neutral B mesons and their ratio, and the B{sup 0}-B{sup 0} mixing parameter {delta}m{sub d} based on a sample of 152x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. One of two B mesons is fully reconstructed in a CP-eigenstate or a flavor-eigenstate decay channel. The flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. From the distributions of the timemore » interval between the two B meson decay points, we obtain sin2{phi}{sub 1}=0.728{+-}0.056(stat){+-}0.023(syst), |{lambda}|=1.007{+-}0.041(stat){+-}0.033(syst), {tau}{sub B{sup 0}}=[1.534{+-}0.008(stat){+-}0.010(syst)] ps, {tau}{sub B{sup +}}=[1.635{+-}0.011(stat){+-}0.011(syst)] ps, {tau}{sub B{sup +}}/{tau}{sub B{sup 0}}=1.066{+-}0.008(stat){+-}0.008(syst) and {delta}m{sub d}=[0.511{+-}0.005(stat){+-}0.006(syst)] ps{sup -1}. The results for sin2{phi}{sub 1} and |{lambda}| are consistent with the standard model expectations. The significance of the observed deviation from unity in the lifetime ratio exceeds 5 standard deviations.« less
