Title: Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of D0 to K- pi+

Abstract

The authors measure the absolute branching fraction for D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -} {pi}{sup +} using partial reconstruction of {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}X{ell}{sup -}{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}} decays, in which only the charged lepton and the pion from the decay D*{sup +} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup +} are used. Based on a data sample of 230 million B{bar B} pairs collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, they obtain {Beta}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}) = (4.007 {+-} 0.037 {+-} 0.070)%, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

  • Using 1.79 fb[sup [minus]1] of data recorded by the CLEO II detector we have measured the absolute branching fraction for [ital D][sup 0][r arrow][ital K][sup [minus]][pi][sup +]. The angular correlation between the [pi][sup +] emitted in the decay [ital D][sup *+][r arrow][ital D][sup 0][pi][sup +], and the jet direction in [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]][r arrow][ital c[bar c]] events, is used to determine the total number of inclusive [ital D][sup 0] mesons produced from this source. The subsequent reconstruction of the decay chain [ital D][sup *+][r arrow][ital D][sup 0][pi][sup +],[ital D][sup 0][r arrow][ital K][sup [minus]][pi][sup +] allows a measurement of themore » absolute [ital D][sup 0][r arrow][ital K][sup [minus]][pi][sup +] branching fraction. Correcting for decay radiation in the final state, we find [ital scrB]([ital D][sup 0][r arrow][ital K][sup [minus]][pi][sup +])=[3.95[plus minus]0.08(stat)[plus minus]0.17(syst)]%.« less

Based on a data sample of 230x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC, we obtain B(D{sup 0}{yields}K{sup -}{pi}{sup +})=(4.007{+-}0.037{+-}0.072)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
  • The authors present a measurement of R{sub B}, the ratio of the branching fraction for the rare decay D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -} to that for the Cabibbo-favored decay D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}. Charge conjugate decays are implicitly included. A signal of 2005 {+-} 104 events for the decay D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -} is obtained using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 0.35 fb{sup -1} produced in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. Assuming no mixing, they find R{sub B} =more » [4.05 {+-} 0.21(stat) {+-} 0.11(syst)] x 10{sup -3}. This measurement is consistent with the world average, and comparable in accuracy with the best measurements from other experiments.« less

  • We present evidence for the b{yields}d penguin-dominated decays B{sup +}{yields}K{sup 0}K{sup +} and B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup 0}K{sup 0} in 227x10{sup 6} {upsilon}(4S){yields}BB decays collected with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fractions B(B{sup +}{yields}K{sup 0}K{sup +})=(1.5{+-}0.5{+-}0.1)x10{sup -6}(<2.4x10{sup -6}) and B(B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup 0}K{sup 0})=(1.19{sub -0.35}{sup +0.40}{+-}0.13)x10{sup -6}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also present improved measurements of the charge-averaged branching fraction B(B{sup +}{yields}K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +})=(26.0{+-}1.3{+-}1.0)x10{sup -6} and CP-violating charge asymmetry A{sub CP}(K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +})=-0.09{+-}0.05{+-}0.01, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
