Title: Branching Fraction and Charge Asymmetry Measurements inB to J/psi pi pi Decays

Abstract

The authors study the decays B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}, including intermediate resonances, using a sample of 382 million B{bar B} pairs recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} B factory. They measure the branching fractions {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} {rho}{sup 0}) = (2.7 {+-} 0.3 {+-} 0.17) x 10{sup -5} and {Beta}(B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi} {rho}{sup +}) = (5.0 {+-} 0.7 {+-} 0.31) x 10{sup -5}. The authors also set the following upper limits at the 90% confidence level: {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} non-resonant) < 1.2 x 10{sup -5}, {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} f{sub 2}) < 4.6 x 10{sup -6}, and {Beta}(B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} non-resonant) < 4.4 x 10{sup -6}. They measure the charge asymmetry in charged B decays to J/{psi} {rho} to be -0.11 {+-} 0.12 {+-} 0.08.

  • We study the decays B{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and B{sup +}{yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}, including intermediate resonances, using a sample of 382x10{sup 6} BB pairs recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} B factory. We measure the branching fractions B(B{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}{rho}{sup 0})=(2.7{+-}0.3{+-}0.2)x10{sup -5} and B(B{sup +}{yields}J/{psi}{rho}{sup +})=(5.0{+-}0.7{+-}0.3)x10{sup -5}. We also set the following upper limits at the 90% confidence level: B(B{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} nonresonant)<1.2x10{sup -5}, B(B{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}f{sub 2})<4.6x10{sup -6}, and B(B{sup +}{yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} nonresonant)<7.3x10{sup -6}. We measure the charge asymmetry in charged B decays to J/{psi}{rho} to be -0.11{+-}0.12{+-}0.08.
  • The authors present measurements of the branching fractions for B{sup 0} meson decays to {eta}{prime}K{sup 0} and {omega}K{sup 0}, and of the branching fractions and CP-violation charge asymmetries for B{sup +} meson decays to {eta}{pi}{sup +}, {eta}K{sup +}, {eta}{prime}{pi}{sup +}, {eta}{prime}K{sup +}, {omega}{pi}{sup +}, and {omega}K{sup +}. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 383 million B{bar B} pairs produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation. The measurements agree with previous results; they find no evidence for direct CP violation.
  • We present measurements of the branching fractions for B{sup 0}-meson decays to {eta}{sup '}K{sup 0} and {omega}K{sup 0}, and of the branching fractions and CP-violation charge asymmetries for B{sup +}-meson decays to {eta}{pi}{sup +}, {eta}K{sup +}, {eta}{sup '}{pi}{sup +}, {eta}{sup '}K{sup +}, {omega}{pi}{sup +}, and {omega}K{sup +}. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 383x10{sup 6} BB pairs produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation. The measurements agree with previous results; we find no evidence for direct CP violation.
  • A comparison of the rates for {psi}(2S){r_arrow}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}J/{psi}, J/{psi}{r_arrow}l{sup +}l{sup {minus}} and J/{psi}{r_arrow} anything is used to determine the J/{psi} leptonic branching fractions. The results are B(J/{psi}{r_arrow}e{sup +}e{sup {minus}})=(5.90{plus_minus}0.05{plus_minus}0.10){percent} and B(J/{psi}{r_arrow}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}})=(5.84{plus_minus}0.06{plus_minus}0.10){percent}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. Assuming lepton universality, the leptonic branching fraction of the J/{psi} is B(J/{psi}{r_arrow}l{sup +}l{sup {minus}})=(5.87{plus_minus}0.04{plus_minus}0.09){percent} per species. This result is used to estimate the QCD scale factor {Lambda}{sub {ovr MS}}{sup (4)} and the strong coupling constant {alpha}{sub s}. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}
