  • We present preliminary results for the D{sub s} meson spectrum and decay constants in unquenched lattice QCD. Simulations are carried out with 2 + 1 dynamical quarks using gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration. We use the ''asqtad'' a{sup 2} improved staggered action for the light quarks, and the clover heavy quark action with the Fermilab interpretation. We compare our spectrum results with the newly discovered 0{sup +} and 1{sup +} states in the D{sub s} system.
  • The review of the quark and lepton family includes properties of the tau, SU(2) x U(1) classification of the tau and its decays, heavier leptons, the spectroscopy of heavy hadrons composed of quarks, their strong and electromagnetic decays, the weak interaction properties of the c, b, and t quarks, and the decays of hadrons containing them expected within the context of the standard SU(2) x U(1) model. 76 references.   • Recent investigations of QCD aspects of heavy quark events in [ital e][sup +][ital e][sup [minus]] collisions are presented. Using three jet fractions in these events the flavor independence of the coupling constant of QCD, [alpha][sub [ital s]], is verified: [alpha][sup [ital b]][sub [ital s]]/[alpha][sup [ital udsc]][sub [ital s]]=1.01[plus minus]0.03[plus minus]0.03. The average scaled energy of charmed and bottom hadrons in decays of the Z[sup 0] is determined. Comparing these results with measurements at lower energies clear evidence for scaling violation is established. Studies of the shape of the fragmentation function do not yet allow a significant discrimination between different theoreticalmore » models. A study of the differences between quark and gluon jets performed in a model independent way establishes, that gluon jets are softer and broader compared to quark jets in the same environment.« less
  • Recent results on the production dynamics of bottom from the Collider Detector Facility, E653, and E672 at Fermilab are reviewed and compared to previous results and theory. Agreement with theory is reasonable but the possible origins of the differences that do exist may lie in higher order corrections or possibly the shape of the gluon distribution. New results on the A-dependence of charm are summarized. Recent results are converging towards an [alpha] parameter of 1, independent of [ital x][sub [ital F]]. Results on inclusive charm production from Fermilab E769 and E653 and CERN WA82 are reviewed. Recent results on [italmore » D][minus][ital [bar D]] correlations in photoproduction from E687 at Fermilab are reported. Many new results on charmed baryon states from CLEO, E687, ARGUS, and Serpukhov BIS-2 are reviewed. This is an area where rapid progress is now occurring. Results on the [ital D]* branching fractions, [ital D][sub [ital s]] branching fractions, doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays, and the ratio [ital D][degree][r arrow][ital KK]/[ital D][degree][r arrow][pi][pi] are covered.« less
  • A new experimental method to study (q/sub H/, q-bar/sub H/) states formed in p-barp annihilations is discussed and compared to similar experiments at e/sup +/e/sup -/ colliders. Results on Charmonium states from a pioneering experiment at the ISR are summarized and plans for a future experiment at Fermilab are presented. The possibility of extending the method to the study of (b, b-bar) states is evaluated.
