Abstract

A method of testing corrosive lubricating media using a wear testing apparatus without a mechanical seal. The wear testing apparatus and methods are effective for testing volatile corrosive lubricating media under pressure and at high temperatures.

  • A process for preparing improved solid lubricants, by modifying the surface characteristics of the solid lubricants using reactive chemical compounds, is disclosed. Prior art measures anticipate combinations of modifiers and solid lubricants as lubricating mixtures but do not disclose bonding modifiers with solid lubricants. Examples of the improved modified solid lubricants are molybdenum disulfide chemically bonded to polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate or polydimethylsiloxane.
  • An apparatus is designed for testing the homogeneity of compacted mixtures of two materials of differing electric conductivities, particularly Mg-- UF/sub 4/ pellets for manufacture of U. The apparatus comprises means for supporting a differential transformer at two opposed sides of the compact, means for feeding a-c to the primary windings, and means for detecting the difference between the outputs of the secondary windings as an indication of the homogeneity of the compact.   • A composition is described of matter which is useful for protecting metal exposed to a corrosive environment. Use of such in the treatment of metal parts, e.g., located in well bores, equipment, etc., is disclosed and claimed. The composition contains as an essential constituent an acid salt of the reaction product of a fatty or resin acid, a polymerized higher fatty acid, a partial ester formed by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with a polymerized higher fatty acid and aminoethyl ethanolamine.
