Abstract

A fiber optically isolated and remotely stabilized data transmission system s described wherein optical data may be transmitted over an optical data fiber from a remote source which includes a data transmitter and a power supply at the remote source. The transmitter may be remotely calibrated and stabilized via an optical control fiber, and the power source may be remotely cycled between duty and standby modes via an optical control fiber.

  • It is, an object of this invention to provide a fiber optically isolated and remotely stabilized data transmission system wherein optical data may be transmitted over an optical data fiber from a remote source which includes a data transmitter and a power supply at the remote source, the transmitter may be remotely calibrated and stabilized via an optical control fiber, and the power source may be remotely cycled between duty and standby modes via an optical control fiber.

  • A single transmission line interrogated multiple channel data acquisition system is provided in which a plurality of remote station/sensors monitor specific process variables and transmit measurement values over the single transmission line to a master station when addressed by the master station. Power for all remote stations (up to 980) is provided by driving the line with constant voltage supplied from the master station and automatically maintained independent of the number of remote stations directly connected to the line. The transmission line can be an RG-62 coaxial cable with lengths up to about 10,000 feet with branches up to 500more » feet. The remote stations can be attached randomly along the line.   • This patent describes a method for initiating seismic data storage in an isolated distributed recording system. Generating an encoded seismic signal, utilizing an acoustic energy source, which will penetrate to a sub-surface refractive horizon; detecting a refraction of the controlled seismic signal from the refractive horizon with at least one isolated distributed recorder; correlating said refracted seismic signal with a preselected correlating signal; and upon correlation between the correlating signal and the refracted seismic signal, triggering the isolated distributed recorder to store incoming seismic data.
