Title: PSI(2S) Two- and Three-Body Hadronic Decays

Abstract

The authors report measurements of branching fractions for {psi}(2S) decays into {omega}{pi}{sup +} {pi}{sup -}, b{sub 1}{pi}, {omega}f{sub 2}(1270), {omega}K{sup +}K{sup -}, {omega}p{bar p}, {phi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}, {phi}f{sub 0}(980), {phi}K{sup +} K{sup -}, and an upper limit for {phi}p{bar p} final states based on a data sample of (4.02 {+-} 0.22) x 10{sup 6} {psi}(2S) events collected with the BESI detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The branching fractions for b{sub 1}{pi} and {omega}f{sub 2}(1270) update previous BES results, while those for other decay modes are first measurements. The ratios of {psi}(2S) and J/{psi} branching fractions are smaller than what is expected from the 12% rule by a factor of six for {omega}f{sub 2}(1270), by a factor of two for {omega}{pi}{sup +} {pi}{sup -}, {omega}p{bar p}, and {phi}K{sup +} K{sup -}, while for other studied channels the ratios are consistent with expectation within errors.

  • This paper describes the observation of the decays B{sup {plus}} {r_arrow} {psi}(2S)K{sup {plus}} and B{sup 0} {r_arrow} {psi}(2S)K{sup {asterisk}}(892){sup 0} in 1.8 TeV p{ovr p} collisions and presents measurements of the branching fractions Br(B{sup {plus}} {r_arrow} {psi}(2S)K{sup {plus}}) and Br(B{sup 0} {r_arrow} {psi}(2S)K{sup {asterisk}}(892){sup 0}) relative to Br(B{sup {plus}} {r_arrow} J/{psi}K{sup {plus}}) and Br(B{sup 0} {r_arrow} J/{psi}K{sup {asterisk}}(892){sup 0}), respectively. The {psi}(2S) mesons are reconstructed in both the {psi}(2S) {r_arrow} {mu}{sup {plus}}{mu}{sup {minus}} and {psi}(2S) {r_arrow} J/{psi}{pi}{sup {plus}}{pi}{sup {minus}} channels. The world average branching fractions for the J/{psi} channels are used to extract the absolute branching fractions Br(B{sup {plus}} {r_arrow}more » {psi}(2S)K{sup {plus}}) = (6.8{plus_minus}1.0(stat.){plus_minus}1.4(syst.)){times}10{sup {minus}4} and Br(B{sup 0} {r_arrow} {psi}(2S)K{sup {asterisk}}(892){sup 0}) = (9.0{plus_minus}2.1(stat.){plus_minus}2. 0(syst.)){times}10{sup {minus}4}. 9 refs., 13 figs., 8 tabs.« less
  • Preliminary results are presented on a search for several exclusive charmless hadronic B decays, from data collected by the BABAR detector near the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance. These include two-body decay modes h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}, three-body decay modes with final states h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}h{sup {+-}} and h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup 0}, and quasi-two-body decay modes with final states X{sup 0}h and X{sup 0}K{sub s}{sup 0}, where h = {pi} or K and X{sup 0} = {eta}' or {omega}. The measurement of branching fractions for four decay modes, and upper limits for nine modes are presented.
  • In these lectures the authors discuss the impact of soft hadronic physics on predictions for B decays. Unfortunately their tools for calculating these effects are limited; even after the use of the best available tools the resulting theoretical uncertainties are difficult to delimit, and can obscure tests for the presence of beyond-Standard-Model physics. The first lecture reviews what tools are available, the second reviews in more detail two examples of how these tools can be used.
  • Account is given for the observed enhancement of GAMMA(D/sup 0/ ..-->.. K/sup -/K/sup +/)/GAMMA(D/sup 0/ ..-->.. K/sup -/..pi../sup +/) and suppression of GAMMA(D/sup 0/ ..-->.. ..pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/)/GAMMA(D/sup 0/ ..-->.. K/sup -/..pi../sup +/) relative to tan /sup 2/theta/sub C/ in terms of the ratio f/sub K//f/sub ..pi../ of leptonic decay constants and different effective Cabibbo angles in noncharm and charm sectors. Strong new constraints on mixing angles in the six-quark model are implied. 18 references.
  • The authors present preliminary results of a search for several exclusive charmless hadronic B decays from electron-positron annihilation data collected by the BaBar detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. These include three-body decay modes with final states h{+-}h{sup minus-plus}h{+-} and h{+-}h{sup minus-plus}pi{sup 0}, and quasi-two-body decay modes with final states X{sup 0}h and X{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}, where h = pi or K and X{sup 0} = eta-prime or omega. They find beta(B{sup 0} --> rho{sup minus-plus}pi{sup {+-}}) = (49{+-}13{sub {minus}5}{sup +6}) x 10{sup {minus}6} and beta(B{sup +} --> eta-prime-K{sup +}) = (62{+-}18{+-}8) x 10{sup {minus}6} and present upper limits formore » right other decays.« less
