Title: Nuclear magnetic resonance and voltammetry studies of carbon monoxide adsorption and oxidation on a carbon-supported platinum fuel cell electrocatalyst

Journal Article · · Journal of the Electrochemical Society
OSTI ID:787076

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been used in conjunction with voltammetry in an investigation of the mechanism for the electrocatalytic oxidation of CO on a carbon-supported Pt fuel cell electrocatalyst in 2 M H2SO4 at ambient temperature. The states of adsorbed CO (COads), the conditions which give rise to those states and the oxidation pathways associated with those states were investigated as a function of the extent of COads coverage and the working-electrode potential at which the COads coverage was formed (Eads). CO was adsorbed from the electrolyte at various fixed values of Eads.
