Inspections are the government`s primary tool for assessing regulatory compliance to environmental policies. All of the major federal environmental statutes contain provisions authorizing inspections for the purpose of furthering enforcement. The legal, as well as the regulatory framework in preparing for an inspection are discussed. In addition, the practical steps involved in preparing for an inspection are presented. The authors also focus on what is involved in executing an inspection. For example, the legal framework, what the government is looking for, and conduct during an inspection.
