Staff analysis of electric utility energy savings, December 1973 through June 1974
A seven-month (December, 1973, through June, 1974) comparison is made between energy data furnished by public utilities pertaining to generation and projected energy savings. Energy conservation appeals were made to governmental, commercial, and industrial institutions to reduce non-essential energy-consuming activities. Some utilities made temporary changes in electricity rate structures to encourage voluntary conservation of energy by consumers. Attachments are included showing the forms sent to the nine regional reliability councils. Results are tabulated for the nine regions and the contiguous United States. It is concluded that, of the Nation's 7 percent average difference between forecasted and actual generation, over one-half of that difference can be attributed to conservation measures. (MCW)
