Nitrogen dioxide measurement principle and calibration procedure

Promulgation of an amended measurement principle and calibration technique is announced for nitrogen dioxide. While the selected chemiluminescence measurement principle is imperfect, particularly in regard to possible interferences from peroxyacetyl nitrate and various gaseous nitrogen compounds other than NO, EPA believes these possible interferences do not exist in sufficient concentrations to seriously degrade the quality of the nitrogen dioxide measurements. In areas where these interferences are a problem, various equivalent methods will be available. (PCS)
