Neptunium oxytetrafluoride (NpOF/sub 4/) and neptunium pentafluoride (NpF/sub 5/) were synthesized by fluorination of /sup 237/NpO/sub 2/ and NpF/sub 4/ with KrF/sub 2/ in anhydrous HF at 20/sup 0/C with constant stirring. The bases of analyses for support of the proposed formulae are given. The data suggested that the nature of the fluorination reactions of NpO/sub 2/ differs depending on the temperature. Suggested reactions schemes are included. Certain chemical and physical properties of the compounds are described. (BLM)
