Title: Study of the mechanism of the synthesis of methanol from carbon monoxide and hydrogen using the radioactive carbon isotope /sup 14/C. [Cu-Zn-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, Zn-Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and fused Fe catalysts]

Abstract

Analysis of the experimental results on methanol synthesis in a high-pressure static circulation apparatus showed that on a copper--zinc--aluminum oxide catalyst and a zinc--chromium oxide catalyst the synthesis takes place through the formation of carbon dioxide as an intermediary. On a fused iron catalyst the primary path is direct synthesis from the carbon monoxide and hydrogen. (JSR)
