This paper studies the dependence of the post-discharge emission on the external electric field for Mg and Cu, coated with thin oxide films. No dependence was observed for weak electric fields up to 70 V/cm. An exponential dependence of the emission on the field intensity was observed for Cu for fields exceeding the breakdown fields, i.e., beginning with 300-400 V/cm. Empirical formulas for the dependencies are presented. It was confirmed that photons of the resonance radiation of the inert gas (argon) play the main role in the excitation, but in the case of a metal whose oxide layer has a high electrical resistance (magnesium), positive ions also play a significant role in the excitation.
