Title: Dow Syngas Project. Monitoring Review Committee meeting report. Held on October 12, 1988. Executive Summary. Rept. for 1 Apr 87-30 Jun 88

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7249596

The Energy Security Act of 1980 established a program to provide financial assistance to private industry in the construction and operation of commercial-scale synthetic fuels plants. The Dow Syngas Project design has a high-temperature entrained-flow slagging-type gasifier, which began operation in 1987. Dow agreed to comply with existing environmental regulations and to develop an Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP) incorporating supplemental monitoring in areas of potential environmental and health concern, relative to synthetic fuels facilities. The two phases of monitoring in the EMP tests parameters of interest in air, water and solid waste to establish a data base of information that can be applied to resolving uncertainties relative to replication of synthetic fuels plants.
