Title: Potential for relocation of population under threat of a nuclear attack. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7245977

Civil Defense planning in the United States has recently begun to emphasize the evacuation of urban areas in order to protect the population from the effects of blast and fallout during a possible nuclear attack. Earlier studies have detailed the traveling and housing requirements for such an evacuation. Areas in New York and Texas are examined to test whether these requirements can be met by the local facilities in these areas. Potential problems exist in both New York and Texas concerning the availability of fallout shelter protection, with congregate care facilities posing a lesser problem. Few generalizations are available--even from an examination of only two areas. (Author) (GRA)
