Pollutants generated from urban development are now known to produce substantial problems with regard to water quality. Many projects and proposals have been offered to counter these runoff problems. Recently, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources undertook a demonstration project to install and examine onsite controls for a developing commercial area in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This article reviews this project funded under the Wisconsin Nonpoint Source Priority Watershed Program,'' which is administered by the Department of Natural Resources. The program provides local funding to control both urban and agricultural runoff within a designated watershed. In this case, the Lowes Creek Watershed was chosen to feature these controls.
