Title: Phase relations in the composition (Pb sub 1-y Cu sub y )Sr sub 2 (Ln sub 1-x Ca sub x )Cu sub 2 O sub 7 and the crystal structure of La sub 8-x Sr sub x Cu sub 8-y O sub 20

Journal Article · · Journal of Solid State Chemistry; (USA)

The compound (Pb{sub 0.71}Cu{sub 0.29})Sr{sub 2}(Ln{sub 1-x}Ca{sub x})Cu{sub 2}O{sub 7} (1212) has been synthesized as single phase material for La, Pr, Nd, Gd, Er, and Y from the proper starting compositions fired above 950{degree}C. The crystal structure of a crystal found in a reaction product from a nominal mixture PbSr{sub 2}LaCu{sub 2} (1212) fired at 1050{degree}C was determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffraction data, Its composition is (La{sub 6.16}Sr{sub 1.84})Cu{sub 7.66}O{sub 20}, M{sub r} = 1823.6, tetragonal, P4/mbm, a = 10.7468(8) {angstrom}, c = 3.8633(3) {angstrom}, V = 446.2(1) {angstrom}{sup 3}, Z = 1, D{sub x} = 6.79 g cm{sup {minus}3}, {lambda} = 0.71069 {angstrom}, {mu} = 288.0 cm{sup {minus}1}, R = 0.032, wR = 0.034 for 385 observed reflections. The two apical Cu1-O bond lengths are 1.9317(1) {angstrom}, and the four equatorial lengths are 1.978(7) {angstrom}. The square Cu2-O bond lengths are 1.9317(1) and 1.869(6) {angstrom} respectively.
