Title: Energy policy: a new war between the states. An AEI round table held on October 2, 1975, at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, Washington, D. C

Book ·
OSTI ID:7197862

A roundtable discussion on the nature of the energy crisis led to consensus on the need to deregulate oil and natural gas prices and the importance of policy makers impressing a sense of urgency on the public. The practice of separating states into an adversary consumer or producer status and the contradictory statements of experts detract from the public's recognition and acknowledgment of this national problem. Participants in the discussion were: Melvin Laird, moderator; David Boren, Governor of Oklahoma; Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts; Stewart Udall, former Secretary of the Interior; and Frank Zarb from the Federal Energy Administration. Oklahoma represents a producing state; Massachusetts a consuming state. Udall spoke for the environmentalists and proponents of a no-growth policy. (DCK)
