Hydrogenation catalysts and process
This patent describes a process for preparing a monoolefinic compound from a diolefinic compound comprising contacting a diolefinic compound with hydrogen under hydrogenation conditions in the presence of a catalyst prepared by contacting an alumina supported nickel arsenate with at least one borohydride compound; wherein at least one borohydride compound conforms to the following formula: M(BH/sub 4/)/sub eta/ wherein M is a monovalent or divalent cation selected from the group consisting of: NR'/sub 4/; wherein each R' is independently C/sub 1/ through C/sub 10/ alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl and alkaryl, alkali metals, and alkaline earth metals; wherein n=1 if M is a monovalent cation and n=2 if M is a divalent cation.
