Title: Gulf Coast plant engineers share energy-saving tips. [Thirty make up Gulf Coast Energy Conservation Society]

Abstract

Thirty plant engineers from Gulf area refining, chemical, rubber, and steel plants share their ideas for conserving energy in hopes of increasing profits for all. The Gulf Coast Energy Conservation Society meets regularly to hear conservation experts and discuss strategies. Members consider the Society to be educational and feel that 90 percent of the savings involve non-proprietary areas, although Exxon has not participated for fear of antitrust action. Membership is limited to one employee from each company, but up to three may attend the meeting. Cooperation between industries includes advice on how equipment and processes have been made more efficient and developing an index for energy usage. Amoco's improved method of sealing up hot exhaust stacks was adopted by Union Carbide and exemplifies the Society's contribution to conservation. (DCK)
