Title: Gravel coating aqueous epoxy emulsion system for water-based consolidated gravel packing: laboratory development and field application

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7119819

A water-based consolidated gravel packing system for sand control has been developed and field tested. The basis of this system is a catalyzed epoxy emulsion which is used to coat gravel with internally catalyzed epoxy. The amine curing agent used causes the epoxy to wet and coat the gravel surfaces in the presence of water. After the gravel has been coated using the epoxy emulsion, it is mixed with a gelled brine containing a viscosity breaker. This slurry is then pumped into well bore perforations, allowed to cure, and then drilled out. This paper discusses the chemistry and laboratory development of the system, field application techniques, and initial field test results. The system has been very successful in controlling sand production in several Gulf Coast wells.
