Hazardous chemical spills and leaks removed by self-contained pump kit
A portable, self-contained kit for handling hazardous materials has received Top Honors in the Vaaler Awards Pollution Control category. Since hazardous material handling has become very important in the chemical process industries from both safety and environmental perspectives, the judges scored the kit highly for its potential significance in a broad range of applications. The self-contained kit has either one or two self-priming rotary pumps. Constructed from rugged engineering plastics, they are resistant to almost every known chemical or combination of chemicals. Sealless design eliminates the possibility of external leakage. The kit can handle unknown chemicals safely - including corrosives, solvents, and hazardous chemicals. Pump components can be changed in minutes for use with other hazardous materials. Since the pump is self-priming and can run dry indefinitely, it can neatly transfer all fumes, liquids, or a combination of the two from a container or area without the worry of pump burnout. To prevent the possibility of explosion the pumps are powered by compressed air. Any air source can be used, including 300 cu ft bottles of compressed air. A specially designed 42 x 18 x 16.5 carrying case holds the pump(s) and all hoses and adaptors required. The single pump kit weighs 100 pounds; the dual pump kit weighs 150 pounds. The equipment can remove chemical spills and leaks as well as transfer hazardous chemicals from old drums to special containers. The portable and self contained design allows plant personnel to react quickly and safely in removing hazards from the workplace.
