Multiparameter data acquisition software: The Kmax topology
While there are many software tools currently available that support singles spectroscopy, very few are available for multiparameter applications. The authors have developed a Macintosh application, Kmax, with an advanced run-time topology for event-by-event data acquisition. Kmax has a high-level support for the computer automated measurement and control (CAMAC) instrumentation standard and provides for event-data archiving, replay, and sorting. A number of different controller interfaces are supported in a transparent way. Depending on the hardware involved, data transfer rates in excess of 200K CAMAC words per second may be achieved. New user-specific features may be added by utilizing the user hooks built into Kmax. The paper discusses Kmax setup, the Kmax execution topology, and multiparameter data acquisition applications.
