An embodiment of this battery-protected circuit includes two transistors which are connected regeneratively to function as a fast-acting switch. An RC path is provided to turn the switch on so that current flows through this switch to the load. A zener diode, which functions as a voltage level sensor, is connected in the base circuit of one of the transistors. If the input drops to the zener voltage either because of a drop in battery voltage or because of a short circuit across the load, the current to the base of this latter transistor is insufficient to support saturation and the switch regeneratively turns off, terminating all current flow from the battery.
