Title: Negative ion detachment cross sections: Progress report, March 1, 1985--February 29, 1988

Abstract

The purpose of the experimental investigations undertaken during the past three years was to perform an extensive and comprehensive study of the collisional dynamics of reactants which involve collisions of negative ions and neutral atomic and molecular targets. The (laboratory) collision energies for these studies ranged from about 1 eV up to 500 eV and the experiments involved measurements of both absolute total cross sections and doubly-differential cross sections. The various processes investigated included electron detachment, charge transfer, dissociative charge transfer and reactive (or rearrangement) scattering. Reactants which were the subject of these investigations included the negative ions O/sup minus/, S/sup minus/, Na/sup minus /, K/sup minus/, Cs/sup minus/, H/sup minus/, D/sup minus/ in collisions with H/sub 2/, D/sub 2/, O/sub 2/, N/sub 2/, CO, CO/sub 2/, CH/sub 4/ and the alkali atoms Na, K and Cs.
